RIO Elite Skagit Max Launch Shooting Head

SMOOTH CASTING, POWERFUL HEADS for big flies and sink tips with lowstretch, ultra-slick performance.

  • Powerful front end to easily cast large flies and fast sinking tips
  • Complete series of heads with varying lengths and small size increments
  • Ultra-low stretch ConnectCore
  • Built with RIO's exceptionally slick, durable SlickCast coating
RIO Skagit Launch heads deliver the power needed to cast large flies and sinking tips more elegantly than ever before. The unique weight distribution deeply loads rods for long, powerful casts, while the refined taper design generates incredibly smooth loops which transition seamlessly from head to tip to fly. The low stretch core gives incredible levels of sensitivity when casting and fishing, and provides enhanced detection of takes, more positive hook sets, and far greater control when playing a fish. In addition, this line is built with SlickCast, creating the slickest, most durable coating on the market—producing the least amount of friction ever measured in a fly line. For best performance, RIO recommends attaching the following head sizes to these shooting lines sizes: 200 to 400gr – .024”/.026” shooting line, or 25lb SlickShooter/GripShooter. 400 to 550gr – .030”/.032” shooting line or 35lb SlickShooter/GripShooter. 550 to 675gr – .035”/.037” shooting line, or 44lb SlickShooter/GripShooter. 675gr and heavier – .040”/.042” shooting line or 50lb SlickShooter/GripShooter.

Unleash Spey Casting Power with Double-Handed Skagit Fly Lines

Spey casting demands not just skill, but the right equipment. That’s why we only offer carefully selected double-handed Skagit fly lines, designed to maximise your power and control when tackling large rivers and hard-fighting salmon, sea trout, and steelhead.

Double-Handed Domination: What are Skagit Fly Lines?

Unlike traditional fly lines for single-handed fly rods, double-handed Skagit lines are built specifically for use with longer, two-handed Spey rods. These lines boast a unique design with a heavy head concentration towards the front, perfect for Spey casting techniques in tight situations and challenging weather. This concentrated weight allows you to effortlessly turn over large flies and heavy sink tips, in windy conditions and across expansive rivers.

Benefits of Skagit Fly Lines

  • Enhanced Spey Casting Performance: The heavy head weight distribution loads double-handed rods quickly, allowing you to achieve greater line control and distance in the cast, even in tight situations.
  • Turn Over Large Flies with Ease: Skagit lines are built to handle hefty flies and tips, ideal for enticing trophy fish in strong currents.
  • Penetrate Deep Waters: Choose from a variety of sinking Skagit lines to reach fish holding deep in the water column, perfect for salmon and steelhead fishing in colder conditions.
  • Versatility for Different Conditions: We offer Skagit lines in various densities, from floating for more benign summer weather to extra-fast sinking for targeting salmon in the early Spring or late Autumn.

Choosing the Right Skagit Line for Your Needs

Selecting the perfect Skagit line depends on several factors, including your Spey rod line weight rating, casting style, target species, and fishing conditions. Here’s a quick breakdown:

  • Rod Weight: Always key! Match the Skagit line weight to your double-handed Spey rod lime rating for optimal performance.
  • Target Species & Depth: Consider the fish you’re targeting and the water depth. Floating lines are perfect for summer fishing, while fast-sinking lines reach salmon less keen to come up and take the fly in colder water conditions.
  • Water Conditions: Factor in wind, current strength, and water temperature. Heavier Skagit lines offer better control in challenging conditions.
