RIO Scandi Shooting Head

AN EASY CASTING SHOOTING HEAD DESIGNED for effortless distance and great presentation • Easy casting design• Printed ID system on the rear of the head for quick recognition• Ultra-low stretch core for the best in casting and fishing sensitivity• High viz rear loop The RIO Scandi head is a very easy casting Scandi style shooting head, built on RIO’s ultra-low stretch ConnectCore for the utmost in casting control and sensitivity. It is available in a multitude of lengths and weights to cover all rod and angling situations. For tight casting spots and the utmost in ease of casting use a head length that is between 2.5 and 3 times the length of the rod, thus a 12 ft rod would work best with a head that is between 30 and 36 ft in length. The shorter the head length, the tighter the back casting space an angler can fish in. With more room and better casting skills a longer head provides the angler with less line to strip in between each cast and more fishing time. Master Spey Casting with Double Handed Scandi Fly Lines

Spey casting is a truly rewarding technique that unlocks a whole new world of possibilities for anglers fishing for salmon, sea trout, and powerful freshwater predators. And a key component to Spey casting success is the right double handed Scandi fly line.

What are Double Handed Scandi Fly Lines?

Double handed Scandi fly lines are designed specifically for use with two-handed Spey rods. Unlike single-handed fly lines, they feature a rear weight distribution and a long front taper which greatly enhances casting performance. The unique taper profile of Scandi lines means they excel at presenting flies at distance with exceptional accuracy and superb turnover, even in tight situations.

Benefits of Double Handed Scandi Fly Lines

  • Effortless Spey Casting: The weight distribution and  taper of Scandi lines loads Spey rods efficiently, allowing for smooth Spey casts with less effort. This translates to less fatigue on long fishing days and more time enjoying the thrill of the cast.
  • Superior Line Control: The thin running line minimises friction as it shoots through the guides, improving casting distance and increasing sensitivity on the swing. This is especially beneficial when fishing for spooky fish in clear waters.
  • Presentation Perfection: The smooth taper of Scandi lines greatly enhances the presentation of your flies, making them irresistible to predatory fish.
  • Adaptability: Scandi lines offer the versatility to adapt to various fishing conditions. By simply changing the sink rate of tips used in conjunction with Scandi heads you can quickly and easily change the depth you present your fly.

Choosing the Right Double Handed Scandi Fly Line

With a variety of Scandi lines available, selecting the perfect one for your needs comes down to a few key factors:

  • Rod Weight: Match the line weight of your double-handed Spey rod to ensure optimal casting performance.
  • Sink Rate: Choose from floating lines for shallow presentations, intermediate lines for subsurface exploration, or sinking lines for reaching deeper depths.
  • Fishing Conditions: Consider the size of the flies you’ll be casting, the wind strength you typically encounter, water temperature and flow, and the distance you need to achieve effective presentation.
