The Tweed Trophy

The Tweed Trophy - A Celebration of Angling Excellence on the River Tweed

The Tweed Trophy is more than just a fishing award; it is a living testament to the rich heritage and enduring spirit of angling on the River Tweed. Each year, this prestigious fishing trophy symbolises not only personal achievement but also the deep-rooted traditions that bind the angling community together. It is a celebration of the skills, patience, and respect for nature that define the pursuit of salmon fishing on one of Scotland’s most iconic rivers.

Crafted with exquisite detail by renowned local sculptor Jason Sweeny, the Tweed Trophy is a masterpiece of artistry and craftsmanship. This fine sculpture, with its intricate design and timeless elegance, captures the essence of the river and the majesty of the salmon that inhabit its waters. Standing proudly in our Kelso store, it serves as both an inspiration and a challenge to anglers who strive to etch their name into the Tweeds angling history.

The trophy is more than just an object; it carries with it the stories and memories of those who have triumphed in the quest for “The Springer.” Each name engraved on its surface represents not just a successful catch, but a moment of connection with the river, a triumph over the elements, and a lasting contribution to the legacy of the River Tweed. These names form a lineage of skill, determination, and passion—qualities that are at the heart of every angler who sets out to conquer this mighty river.

For those who achieve the honour of capturing the first spring salmon each season, their name is immortalised on the Tweed Trophy, joining a distinguished list of anglers who have made their mark on this historic river. This recognition is not just for a single catch, but for the embodiment of the angling spirit that the River Tweed has fostered for generations.

The Journey to The Tweed Trophy

The quest for The Tweed Trophy begins on the 1st of February each year, marking the opening day of the River Tweed’s fly fishing season. Anglers from near and far gather in the historic Scottish Borders, united in their pursuit of the season’s first Springer. This day is a celebration of both skill and community, as local and visiting anglers converge on the banks of the River Tweed, eager to make their mark in angling history and potentially immortalise their name on this elegant fishing trophy.
