RIO Kahuna LT Strike Indicator Pack

Quantity:

Product Description

RIO’S KAHUNA LT is an ingenious and subtle strike indicator made of a piece of high floating fly line with the core removed from the middle, leaving an empty tunnel. Simply break off the required length of indicator and thread the leader though the tunnel. Each packet contains a simple wire threader to make this easier. The end result is an incredibly sensitive strike indicator that grips on to a tapered leader and stays in place without any damage to the leader.

Each packet contains 3, 1ft length of Kahuna LT in Chartreuse, Orange and White. Use a waterproof marker to color the white indicator to any color you like.

We recommend the "thin" indicator for calm water and smaller flies, while the thicker one will be more easily visible in rougher water and lower light.

  1. Interesting Idea

Posted by Paul Fidgeon on 14th May 2019

I tried the Rio Kahuna LT strike indicator for the first time on my fishing trip yesterday. I used the ‘slim’ size. It worked quite well for the first 30 minutes and was very sensitive. After that it began to sink beneath the surface. The smaller size is quite difficult to see particularly at any distance. They also do not fit over a tippet ring so be warned. This limits their flexibility if you want to change tactics quickly or adjust the depth. Despite what the manufacturer says it does interfere with casting efficiency. The fish also spotted them when landing on the water. Here I thought the chartreuse might be a little less obvious but no such luck. In the end I took it off and relied on spotting the takes looking at my floating line. My feeling it is probably an improvement on pimps et al and it might be at its best linked to nymphing on small streams - certainly with the smaller diameter. I do however remain open to persuasion and will probably give it another go next week. Fingers crossed for better results.
